Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Toronto

McNie's Fish & Chips | Etobicoke

We wanted to celebrate Robbie Burns Day with some haggis. This Scottish dish of sheep's heart, liver and lung is seasoned and mixed with suet and oatmeal then boiled in the sheep's stomach. At McNie's, they deep fry it. Not traditional, but way yummier.

So you if you are looking for haggis in Toronto that's a little easier to swallow, check out McNie's. Call first to order as this is a popular menu item on Robbie Burns weekend. Not for traditionalists perhaps, but you can at least recite Burns's Grace or the Selkirk Grace first. This is a short prayer you are meant to read prior to eating your mashed up sheep parts:

Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.

Gie her a (deep-fried) haggis! Rosie :)

Thrive Organic Kitchen & Cafe | South Etobicoke

A kid-friendly organic food restaurant like Fresh in the west end? It is real, and it is called Thrive Organic. Located in Long Branch right on the Lakeshore, Thrive features a delicious menu that is 90% organic with fair-trade and local organic ingredients.

The house burger is a grain and nut patty on a sprouted bun with chipotle sauce, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and tomatoes:

The BUDDHA bowl features baby spinach, micro-greens, carrots, onions, mango, cilantro, peanuts, black sesame seeds with a tahini/camu dressing:

The Longevity salad is filled with spinach, avocado, goji berries, red onion, goat cheese, sprout mix, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, with an acai/maca dressing:

Like the Fresh chain of restaurants (which I love) Thrive has an amazing selection of fresh juices and superfood booster smoothies, as well as organic beer and wine:

Unlike Fresh, Thrive has a section on the menu for children with kiddie rice bowls, wraps and burritos. The atmophere is comfortable, casual and there is live music on Tuesday nights. Rosie :)
