Shop the Neighbourhood

Saturday November 30th is Shop the Neighbourhood, a one-day event that is meant to get us out in our communities supporting small businesses. Many shops have special deals running, and if you follow @ShopTheHood_ca on Twitter there are contests and fun promotions like this one:

Even the CN Tower is getting in on the action- it's turning yellow in support of the event, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages:

Visit the Shop the Neighbourhood website to find out about the exclusive deals in your area. Rosie :)

Egglicious Cafe: Etobicoke

With omelettes that look like this, it is fair to say that this restaurant is aptly named:

As delicious as that Canadian Omelette special was, I wanted to try this restaurant because I heard the corned beef sandwiches were amazing. I love corned beef sandwiches, and this one lived up to the hype. Moist and flavourful, with perfectly buttered rye bread:

I know it is dwarfed by the giant salad but it was really filling. A great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Rosie :)

Jodie's Restaurant | Etobicoke

There are some mornings when you need someone else to make you coffee and eggs. On those mornings, we go to Jodie's Restaurant, where a lovely person will park these in front of us very quickly.

Jodie's "Light Breakfast" is my favourite. Eggs and tomato with toast for $3.95 (that includes coffee before 11am.) I love that they have rye toast, which is the only toast I really like.

The Big Guy's Little Coffee Shop | Mimico

A few of my very favourite things can all be found in this lovely Lakeshore coffee house. Delicious coffee, local works of art and really nice people.

You know a place is special when it's filled with super-friendly regulars. This gang said they were thinking of putting up a camera and starting a Big Guy's reality show.

I just love these paintings. They are so striking.

The Big Guy's Little Coffee Shop even has a little patio out front for sipping your delicious organic coffee or espresso. It's in between Sixth and Seventh Streets in south Etobicoke. We stopped in on our way to Marie Curtis Park. Rosie :)

The Tat Patch

I don't think I would ever get a tattoo. My jeans however, that is a different story. A pair of jeans I have had for a couple of years have a huge hole in the knee. I know there are many who would pay a lot for this look, but I refuse to walk around with my knee showing. I also feel like these jeans owe me a few more years, and that led me to the Tat Patch, the tattoo for your jeans. You don't have to sew or iron. Just turn your jeans inside out, stick the patch over the hole, and then throw them in the dryer. You still have ripped jeans, but the hole is covered, and the best part is it won't spread any further. So my jean situation went from this:

To this!

They come in several different designs; I got the blue tie die. I found them on Etsy but you can buy them directly from The Tat Patch online store. Rosie :)

Luma | Downtown Toronto

the other O&B restaurant I love with a perfect city view is closed Saturday nights.) It was fantastic! Duck lettuce rolls and lamb kofta to start:

For our mains, we had the duck confit special (as good as we've had in Paris) and the signature Luma shrimp and lobster burger with lettuce, tomato and togarashi mayonnaise.

Dessert was outstanding. Here is the Luma chocolate bar made with soft dark chocolate and served with banana and peanut butter ice cream. The lemon tart was also amazing. Anything with chocolate and lemon are our favourite desserts.

The view of King Street and the CN Tower is spectacular, if you go, try to get a table by the window. I can't even get annoyed about the shadows on my photos because they are from all the twinkling city lights. Rosie :)

blo Blow Dry Bar in Bloor West

I don't have very many guilty pleasures, but I am a bit addicted to getting my hair blow-dried. I realize I am perfectly capable of washing and drying my own hair. But the professionals are so much better at it, especially the ones at blo Blow Dry Bar in Bloor West Village. No cut or colour at blo salons- the only service is blow-dries. You choose from a variety of styles in the hair menu such as the Red Carpet (classic smooth tresses) to the Holly Would (tousled sexy curls) which I went with.

Kaila did such an awesome job... you should have seen my hair an hour before this. Big frizzy mess. There is a reason I am smiling so deliriously. Also, the rag mag selection is stellar. I am all caught up on Kardashian #3's Husband From Hell.

I like how a giant portrait of Marilyn greets you when you walk in. If you are going to set a standard of gorgeousness, may as well go with the classic bombshell!

Love this place, and all the lovely friendly people in it. Thanks ladies! Rosie :)
